We will start by paddling out on Three Legged Lake for about 2 km to the first portage at 320m long. Then paddle for about 7 km on Spider Lake the next two short portages (30m and 270m) into Clear Lake to camp three nights on reserved campsite #30 on the north shore facing sunlight direction. One of two days will explore the islands of Georgian Bay by portaging nearby on one 320m long trail and the other at 475m long. One day will be a leisure time for relaxing or exploring the lake. Canoes will be preferable however a decent size kayak can handle these portage trails. On Friday we will return in the morning to the same access point. Each direction between campsite #30 and the access point could range from 4 to 6 hours.

Other
Notes

Please remember that the maximum limit of persons to camp overnight on an interior site in an Ontario provincial park is 9 persons with the maximum of 3 tents per site unless there is an unusual exception of a real large site. This is an opportunity at that time of the year the summer crowds have diminished by allowing more spacious area to explore especially when the large vessel traffic have declined on nearby Georgian Bay. Motorboats are prohibited on Spider and Clear Lakes.

Grand River

Outing Type →

This very popular annual trip seems to be a great draw for all levels of paddlers. We are now into the 11 year doing this and we’ve enjoyed perfect weather (most times), portage free paddling, and a social barbeque that has followed our outing. This is a wonderful day to enjoy an easy moving water river and to socialize with other WCA’ers. The trip will start in south Cambridge where we will put in and then paddle to Paris. We will pass through scenic farm country, negotiate some easy grade one water, and stop for lunch along the way. Those interested are welcome to join us back at our house in Cambridge for some food, beverage, and social time.

Itinerary description

Up early Monday morning to make the 4-5 hr drive.

Monday 25th night on George. George Lake is our put-in so it will be a short paddle.

Tuesday 26/Wednesday 27 nights on Killarney. From George Lake to Freeland Lake (80m portage) from Freeland to Killarney (380m). 6 to 9 km depending. On the second day on Killarney I would like to hike The Crack: http://www.ontariohighpoints.com/the-crack/ We can leave our canoes just at the long portage into Kakakise and walk the 1440m portage and enter the trail at Kakakise. Think it will be about 1.8k to the top from Kakakise Creek.

Thursay 28 on OSA!!! This lake is BEAUTIFUL. I do have it booked till the Saturday but am thinking of coming back on the Friday unless I have more people interested that would like to stay that extra night. Only a 130m portage from Killarney. We could go explore Muriel! Suppose to be beautiful there as well. Swimming. Reading. Taking in the beauty of this lake. Paddle around it. Up early early on Friday (or Saturday) morning for a approx 10k paddle back to George Lake.

Required Items to Bring

We will be responsible for our own breakfast and lunches and each person I think will do one communal meal. Dinners will be communal and perhaps a breakfast depending.

Chiniguchi Lake and River System

Outing Type →

This is one of my favourite lake trips.
We will be travelling at a comfortable pace with two lay-over camp sites. Some planned activities include, climbing the Elephant, swim in Paradise Lagoon, explore Dougherty, and Frederick Lakes.
For meals, we plan for communal breakfasts and dinners. Lunches will be left to the individuals or partners. Although we are not on a provincial park, we would like to avoid disposable cans and bottles.
This is an ideal trip for intermediate lake water canoeists who are comfortable camping for this duration. Portages are easy to moderate. A few moderately steep climbs might be encountered.
