Fall Hiking Weekend at the Farmhouse

Our annual hiking weekend was a great success. We had snow again this year but it didn't deter us. Enough cars with snow tires allowed us to drive to the Beaver Valley for a Bruce Trail hike that included Eugenia Falls, Hoggs Falls and several smaller waterfalls. I thought we had too much food for the Saturday night supper but we made short work of it. Following dinner, Marilyn & David Friesen treated us to a presentation about their hike on Baffin Island and then Dave Robinson followed up with slides from last summer's Snake River trip. On Sunday, a smaller group hiked the Bruce Trail at the Nottawasaga Bluffs then had lunch back at the farmhouse before heading home.

Why the WCA can not do more to protect our wild places.

These are sad times and if you are wondering "what the" is going on and why our voice as a group is rarely heard.

Now is the time to force the issue with federal politicians especially the opposition to take a loud public stand against this.
If it is not on the radar IT WILL NOT BE HEARD OR DEALT WITH!

We need all our members to become engaged and to be more active.
Once it is out more in the open then those amongst with the power of pen will be more likely to write about it.

Many groups hands are tied right now and we need some one to cut the rope and free them.

The Thunder box Challenge

I thought this would be a cause many members here would get on to... 8)
errr into :D
I know many of us have encountered the problems of campsites/locations being abused.
I will be taking this beauty to the my first campsite on my Agawa Trip

It cost less than $35.oo to make and I am sure some of you would be able to scrape up some donations.

Maybe those members that are various "Friends of Parks" could entice park management for some free backwoods camping for this service.

This one is 16 x 16 x 16 and it could be built modular for easier transport.

We will need some notes to explain the rules of use in these unregulated areas.
I will put it on the inside of the lid on this one.
And simply state when hole is full dig a new one.

I think I will have some fun on the drive up too the Sault with this though....
We all like a challenge and we want to keep our areas neat as we can for the next time.

(and no you don't have to put it on your head.... :o )

6 degrees of Separation

I had one of those moments a week ago, a major flash back with a Holy ... :o
Being a soon to be extinct walking Letter Carrier I have lots to time to go over various things while enjoying the walking.
This thought just came out of the blue, I wasn't thinking anything close to this kind of stuff...
Then came home and started to dig, I knew I had one.
This hasn't been out of a box since we moved to Milton In 89....

During the 60's (early) I think not sure when the G7 produced some of these silver collectors plates.
But I do know who the Silversmith was.
My Father.
Really cool and that with all the A.Y. location shots i took in Agawa Canyon even before the Waddingtions got me l searching makes it even more strange.

Mystery is is there any old newspaper stories about this back then???
Ahhh more digging.

Cool eh?

Jeff
My older Brother remembers meeting A.Y. at the shop but I have no memories that I did.
I was just a weee little gaffer back then, and the memories are a tad faded.

Algoma rescue

Many of you know I go up to this area a lot, It is totally beautifully rugged and I do try to pay attention to what is going on. In any wilderness area you have to obey the rules, and there are no shortcuts!

Just thought I would share this. The area north of the Sault is very tough and needs to be respected. When I find out about the exact location I will let you know, but I figure it is in the Montreal Reservoir area or KIng Mountain. https://www.facebook.com/rcaf1924?fref=photo
