Paddling Partner wanted

“I am looking for a paddling partner for a 6 - 7 week canoe trip in July / August, 2018 to paddle the Churchill and Nelson Rivers. The trip will commence in Lac La Loche, Saskatchewan around July 1st and at the halfway point just east of Pukatawagan, Manitoba we will cross the Kissising Portage from the Churchill River to the Burntwood and Nelson River systems. We will finish up around mid August at Gillam, Manitoba.
My wife and I will depart NL by crew cab truck with canoe and gear around June 24th and can pick up the paddling partner in route. After dropping off the paddlers with canoe and gear she will drive the vehicle to Thompson, Manitoba and fly back to NL. At the end of the canoe trip I will pickup the truck in Thompson, Manitoba and drive back east and deliver the paddling partner to his pick up point.
There will be great campsites and fishing along the way.
Call or e mail me for details. E mail herman.perry@outlook.com ph 709 754 5227”

Tent City Closing

Tent City Outfitters has long been a reliable source of good outdoor equipment for those in Toronto's northwest end. Like so many small retailers today, they are finally closing their doors. While they don't carry a lot of specific paddling gear, they would be an excellent place to check out if you are in need of a quality new tent, sleeping bag, stove or pack.

The New Future of Canoeing

Sometimes it has looked like the 21st century could see the canoeist put on the endangered species list as we seemed to be an aging group with few new recruits in generally, and especially at the younger ages. However, there now are indicators that things are looking up. Here is some very positive news about the rediscovery of paddlesports and canoe tripping by the younger generation in this upbeat article recently featured in rapidmedia's on-line newsletter.

Kirk Wipper interview

Worth the watch!

With all the renewed interest in all types of paddling it is even more important that paddlers do not take the gift of paddling lightly.
Hopefully more will be inspired to be involved.
One person can make a difference.
A lot of us can do so much more!

I thought I should maybe I should post in the Enviro or media thread but too few visit them.
We need to remember that there are those who came before that put tremendous effort for future paddlers, some known, many who are not.
And we need those in the present to paddle up to that level.

Bill C-69 introduces Changes to the NPA.

On Feb 8th the Federal Government tabled Bill C-69 an omnibus bill that deals with the Navigable Protection Act.
Part 3 deals what concerns paddlers on their navigation rights.

I have not read it in depth yet. (just getting it out there)
There will be hearings and time for more input.
So here is some "light" reading for you for you winter hibernation.
